In the current livestock and poultry farming, it has gradually become a consensus to add enzyme products to feed, especially phytase, which has long been a routine feed additive. With the continuous progress of farming concepts, non-starch polysaccharide enzymes (NSP enzymes) have also been gradually recognized, and xylanase, β-glucanase, or a complex of NSP enzymes have been added to some feeds. However, enzymes such as protease, which animals can secrete themselves, are often considered optional, especially for adult livestock and poultry. In fact, the role of proteases in farming should not be underestimated. Improper use of proteases in farming environments can lead to some unfavorable effects, reducing farming efficiency. Today, we will discuss the importance of using proteases in feed from the perspective of their advantages.
Reasonable use of protease enzyme in diets can increase the digestibility of crude protein and amino acids in raw materials, reduce the level of crude protein in diets, and to some extent, reduce the use of expensive ingredients such as soybean meal, expand the range of suitable ingredients, use more unconventional raw materials, and improve feed stability.
Reasonable use of proteases in diets can minimize the undigested crude protein reaching the hindgut, reduce the production of harmful substances in the hindgut fermentation, maintain the balance of intestinal flora, ensure intestinal health, reduce ammonia emissions, and prevent damage to the respiratory tract. In addition, a protease with specific functions can effectively degrade antigenic proteins and other anti-nutritional factors in feed, improve feed nutritional value, protect the intestinal barrier, and maintain intestinal health. However, not all proteases on the market have this effect of degrading antigenic proteins after actual evaluation.
The improvement of crude protein and amino acid digestibility and utilization in feed reduces nitrogen emissions from livestock and poultry, contributing to green farming and environmental protection, the value of which is immeasurable. Although the use of protease enzyme in farming has many advantages, it does not necessarily mean that positive effects will always be seen in practical application.
Having stronger heat and acid resistance, and using a "monogastric animal biomimetic digestion system" to systematically, comprehensively, and accurately evaluate the application effect of proteases, improves the specificity of proteases to complex compound feeds. It is an indispensable helper in the farming process.
